My New Flat

Close on the heels of classes starting, my month at my initial apartment came to an end. As I described in a previous post, that apartment was adequate, but it really wasn’t meant for long term stays. As my roommate Ty put it, “that place has no soul!” So, we found a new place through airbnb.

The new place is only a block away from the old place, which is ideal since we both like the neighborhood: it is centrally located in Harare (equidistant from both our campuses) and within walking distance to multiple grocery stores, restaurants, and coffee shops.

The new place is definitely an upgrade from the old place. It is both bigger and more comfortable. It definitely has soul! The kitchen, while small, is very well-equipped with a gas stovetop even! We also have a private yard with beautiful landscaping. The ability to work and/or relax outside is a blessing given how hot the weather has been the past two weeks. The space is perfectly shaded and there is typically a breeze to help us keep cool.

I have not yet any of my human neighbors, but there is one incredibly friendly cat that belongs to one of my neighbors. On our first day here this cat walked right up to us and started purring. Whenever we are outside the cat comes over looking for pets and eventually just relaxes in the lawn nearby. Unfortunately, Ty is allergic to cats, so we have to be sure to keep the doors closed because this cat will come right inside and make itself at home!

And best of all, the new place has significantly better wifi!!!!
